Breaking planning entries into sub-entries (Limited Release)

How to split a planning entry into more detailed sub-entries like placements or ads in the Combined View.

Written by Micaela Rosling Caesar

In the Combined View, you can split a planning entry into more detailed lines called sub-entries. For example, a single media entry for Paid Social can be broken down into individual placements like Instagram Stories and Facebook feed, each with their own fields and flighting allocation.

Sub-entries are created and managed inside the Combined View. They sit nested under the planning entry and can be expanded or collapsed.

How to create a sub-entry

Right-click on a planning entry and choose Add sub-entries to see the options:

  • Single – adds one blank sub-entry below the planning entry for you to fill in manually.

  • Multiple – adds several blank sub-entries at once, for when you need more than one but don't want to build them from tags.

  • From tags – creates multiple sub-entries at once based on tags you select.

Add sub-entry options

Creating sub-entries from tags

This option is useful when you want to create a sub-entry for each placement, ad format, or other tag combination in one go.

  1. Right-click the planning entry, choose Add sub-entries, then From tags.

  2. Select one or more tag categories (for example Placement).

  3. The dialog shows how many sub-entries will be created. Click Add to confirm.

Creating sub-entries from tags

Camphouse creates one sub-entry for each combination of the tags you selected. If your organisation uses Media Inventory rules, any combinations that are not allowed will be skipped. The dialog tells you how many entries were created and how many were skipped.

Working with sub-entries

Once created, sub-entries appear nested under the planning entry. You can:

  • Expand and collapse the planning entry to show or hide its sub-entries.

  • Edit each sub-entry's fields independently, such as its placement name or start and end dates.

  • Flight each sub-entry by entering values in the period columns, the same way you would on a planning entry. You can also right-click and choose Allocate to spread a sub-entry's total across periods in one step, choosing to go proportionally across all periods, proportionally across empty periods, or with everything remaining on the last period. The field you flight here needs its Total is setting set to Sum, the same requirement as any flighted measure. See Set up Flighting & Activation for details.

  • Hide the media entry fields using view settings to focus on the sub-entry fields, or hide the period columns to focus on the entry details

  • Delete a sub-entry – right-click a sub-entry that can be deleted and choose Delete. This option only appears on sub-entries, not on the planning entry itself.

How totals work

Sub-entries start with no total. A new sub-entry has no total of its own. You add a total to the sub-entry and then flight it inline.

Sub-entry totals are independent from the planning entry total. Editing a sub-entry's figure does not automatically update the planning entry above it. Each level's numbers are set separately.

The Total column on both levels shows the same allocated / committed format:

  • The number on the left is how much has been scheduled across periods (allocated).

  • The number on the right is the total entered for that line (committed).

This means you can compare what is planned at the top level against what is broken down at the sub-entry level, without either overwriting the other.
