How Taxonomies Are Generated in Media Plans

Taxonomies in Camphouse help you create consistent naming structures across your media plans. Once a Taxonomy field is created, as users select values in a Media Entry, the Taxonomy will begin to populate based on the rule you created.

Pay attention to the Campaign Name field below and notice how as selections are made in the Media Entry, a taxonomy begins to form.

💡 Already have a taxonomy in place? No problem — Camphouse can match the format you already use.

Don’t have one yet? You can easily create your own standard right here.

Taxonomy Field Creation

In Camphouse you are able to generate a Taxonomy per Media Entry in the Media Plan.

⚠️ Be sure to include all the fields utilized in your Taxonomy in your Media Type as well! If a field is missing from the Media Type set-up it will not populate into the Taxonomy

In order to create a Taxonomy field:

  1. Access Media Types and Fields:
Go to Settings > Media types and Fields.

  2. Create a New Field:

    1. Click Create new field.

    2. Choose Text Field as the field type.

  3. Enable Template Field:

    1. Scroll down and check the box that says Field is a template field.

    2. Once enabled, the Taxonomy Generator section will appear below.

  4. Open the Taxonomy Generator:
Scroll down to view the Taxonomy Generator UI, where you can start creating your taxonomy template.

Working with the Taxonomy Generator:

  1. Workspace: Within the Taxonomy Generator UI, your workspace is the Template area.

  2. Standard Fields in the Taxonomy Generator:

    1. Relations

      1. These are system-standard fields related to your Media Entry.

      2. Organization and Media Type will appear here.

    2. Plan Fields

      1. These are fields that exist at the Plan level when you set up your Plan.

      2. Plan name, Plan conventional name, Plan start date, Plan end date, and other custom Plan fields will appear here.

    3. Special Fields

      1. These are special fields related to either your Media Entry or Media Plan.

      2. Plan UTI (unique identifier per plan), Entry UTI (unique identifier per entry in the plan), Fiscal year, and Plan fiscal year will appear here.

    4. Utilities & Separators

      1. These are standard separators commonly used when creating a Taxonomy.

      2. Text String can be used to add a non-standard separator, such as a “|” bar, or to add a fixed text string in your Taxonomy.

      3. For example, if you would like to preface Media Vehicle with the word “Vendor:”, you can use a Text String so that your Taxonomy always displays “Vendor:” before the Media Vehicle selected in the Media Entry.

  3. Begin Adding Fields:
To start, drag and drop the fields you want into the Template area.

  4. Select from Standard Sections:
You can grab fields from the Relations, Plan Fields, Special Fields, and Utilities & Separators sections.

  5. Use the Field Inventory:
You can also select fields from the field inventory on the right pane. Make sure to click and drag the fields from the library — if you only click a field, it will open the settings for that field and reset your taxonomy creation.

  6. Remove a Field:
To remove a field, hover over the top right corner of the field name until an “x” appears. Click the “x” to delete the field from your taxonomy.

Field Formatting

Fields added to your Taxonomy can also have special formatting:

Access Formatting Options

Hover over the icon to the right of any field added in your Template and click it to see additional formatting options.

  • Tag Fields:

    • Tag fields default to using the full tag name.

    • They can be formatted to use the abbreviations set in the Tags area of Settings.

  • Date Fields:

    • Date fields default to the YYYY-MM-DD format.

    • You can change this to another date format.

    • All available date formats can be found here.

  • Number Fields:

    • Number fields can use numbers as versions.

  • Text Strings or Separators:

    • Separators can be edited by clicking the pencil icon.

    • Text Strings must be edited to display the desired text.

Save Formatting

To update formatting, either toggle or type in the format you want, then click Save.

Overall Taxonomy Formatting

Your Taxonomy can also have some overall formatting options applied:

  • Apply Formatting to the Entire Taxonomy:
Below the Template area, you’ll find additional formatting options that apply to the taxonomy as a whole.

    • Original: Displays fields as they are formatted in the system.
For example, if a Tag is labeled “Google,” the taxonomy will show “G” uppercase and “oogle” lowercase.

    • Lower case: Displays the entire taxonomy in lowercase.

    • Upper case: Displays the entire taxonomy in uppercase.

    • Urlize: Formats the taxonomy so it can be used in a URL.

    • Replace whitespaces: Replaces spaces in your taxonomy with the selected replacement character.

  • Create the Field:
Once all fields and formatting are added, click Create Field to save your taxonomy and begin adding that field to your Media Types.
