What are Targets?

Targets in Camphouse let you set strategic benchmarks, such as budgets, spend, or performance goals, that your plans and results can be measured against. They give marketing, finance, and planning teams a shared reference point for what "on track" looks like, across any level of your organization.

This article gives a high-level overview of what Targets are and how they're used in Camphouse. For step-by-step instructions, follow the links to the detailed articles.

What Targets are used for

Targets are used to:

  • Set strategic goals. Define the numerical values you want to plan and deliver against (for example, spend, impressions, or engagements) for a specific period.

  • Track pacing. Automatically compare your plan data to your target values to see whether you're on, under, or over pace.

  • Report on performance. Include targets in reports to visualize them on their own or alongside other data sources such as plans or results.

  • Align teams around a single source of truth. Give marketing, planning, and finance stakeholders the same view of what's been approved and how delivery is tracking.

How Targets are structured

Targets are organized into target hierarchies. A hierarchy represents how you want to break down a goal, for example from a top-level budget down to brand, channel, or media vehicle.

Each level in a hierarchy includes:

  • The tag the level is linked to

  • The start and end date of the target period

  • The numerical value being tracked

  • The current pacing toward that value, calculated from plan data that matches the hierarchy's tags and date range

Targets are available at the Parent, Subsidiary, and Plan levels, so they can be used for company-wide goals as well as plan-specific ones.

Key capabilities

Targets Overview
A central page to search, filter, and manage all your target hierarchies at the current level, and to create new ones (at Parent and Subsidiary levels).

Targets Timeline
A clear timeline view to review and update values for a selected period, one hierarchy at a time.

Top-down and bottom-up entry
Enter a total at the top level and distribute it downward, or enter values at lower levels and let them automatically roll up to parent targets.

Rollups
When values are entered at lower levels of a hierarchy, they're automatically summed up and reflected on their parent targets, so you can work where the data originates and let Camphouse handle the aggregation.

Comments on Targets
Include text fields in your target structure to capture context, such as PO numbers, assumptions, or notes, at each level of the hierarchy.

Targets in Reports
Add targets directly to charts in the Reports section. Targets follow the report's date range, dimensions, grain, and filters, and can be visualized alone or compared with other data sources.
